The subject doesn't always have to be at the center of the
photo. In fact, moving your subject off to one side against a
simple, yet interesting background creates a really compel-
ling photo.

If you move your subjects to one side, be sure that they're looking at the camera so
that they'll still be the most engaging part of the shot.

Framing a shot with historic or notable scenery not only enhances a photo, it will help you remember a vacation or special occasion.

Once you've framed your shot, be sure that the background
itself is compelling without being too busy.If you can, use a
background with solid colors, like water, a field of flowers or
the sky.

When there's a crowd of people in the background, adjust
the f-stop if you're using a manual camera. If you're using
an auto-focus camera, be sure to zoom in so that the focus will be entirely on your subject.

So many photos are shot straight-on at the same level of
the subject - why not shake it up a bit? Angling the camera,
shooting your subject from above or below and zooming in
create a more memorable photo.

When photographing kids and animals, get down on their
eye level to shoot the photo from their perspective. You might be surprised at how unique it is!

Shooting photos in black-and-white creates a timeless, romantic feel, and it's especially great for wedding
photos or landscape shots. Look for a subject or scene
with some contrast between light and shadows to create a striking black-and-white shot.

If you're using a digital camera, it probably has a black-and-white setting, or you can use our free editing tools to convert a color photo to black-and-white.

If your photo isn't quite picture-perfect, it can be quickly
and easily corrected with our free editing tools. You can
remove red-eye, crop out unwanted background objects, lighten dark photos, adjust colors and even add a sepia or
black-and-white tint.

To edit a photo that you've uploaded, click on Edit & Organize in the blue toolbar and then click the "Fix & Enhance" link.

Christmas lights, campfires, and other sources of outdoor
light at night are best shot without a flash. They can get
washed-out if you use a flash, so be sure to turn it off. Use the nighttime setting on your camera to slow the shutter speed,
which allows more light in, but take extra care to steady the camera so that it won't create a blur.

If you're snapping photos outside on a cloudy day, the softer lighting can make colorful subjects stand out even more than usual. A flash can help illuminate faces, but sometimes muted lighting is better captured without a flash to make colors pop.
Try taking a few shots of a green tree or a bright umbrella against dark clouds, and notice the dramatic results.

Red-eye is one of the most common photo flaws, but it's
easy to fix with our red-eye tool. While previewing a
photo, click on "Fix & Enhance" in the blue menu. Under
the Fix menu on the next page, click the "Red-Eye" icon.
When you mouse over your photo, a square will appear
with a cross in the middle - center the cross on the red part
of the subject's eyes, click the mouse and it's gone!

Auto-correct and auto-contrast enhance the color of
your photo and correct the orange and green tints that
florescent and incandescent lighting can cause. On the fix
and enhance page, click on the "Correct" icon, and then
choose either auto-correct or auto-contrast. To revert to the original version, click "original."

Borders are a fun way to add some pizzazz to your photos.
On the fix and enhance page, click on the Borders tab, and then click on a border to preview it on your photo. You can view more border styles by choosing a category from the dropdown menu above the borders. To remove a border, click the "Remove Border" link underneath the border images.
